to install an old orthography Malayalam Unicode font which is required to read the posts below]
(Modified after Kevin's reply on 02 Mar '05)
- Lya = ള്യ
- ntya = ന്റ്യ
- zhya = ഴ്യ
- Rya = റ്യ
- kutyaaTi = കുറ്റ്യാടി
- strong - സ്റ്റ്രോംഗ്
- yDs = യ്ഡ്സ് as we write AIDS
- NThro = ണ്ഠ്രൊ (could be Windows's usp10.dll problem)
- kgko = ക്ഗ്കൊ
- ktro = ക്റ്റ്രൊ (could be Windows's usp10.dll problem)
- Dchka = ഡ്ച്ക
- Nchko = ണ്ച്കൊ
- tnjnjto = റ്റ്ഞ്ഞ്റ്റൊ
- khta = ഖ്റ്റ
- Dgtr^ = ഡ്ഗ്റ്റൃ
- phplu = ഫ്പ്ലു
- kthho = ക്ഥൊ
- Symbol of വ in ന്വ should go down and left a bit. Otherwise it can be confused with മ്പ.
- Uneven space after characters. Specifically after കു and മ. See സകുമയരല
- How do we output archaic Malayalam symbols for 1/4, 1/8, nu~ (as in 10-nu) etc. Will the private space in Unicode be useful?
- ഘ should be like പ, on the line. So ഘ should go down a bit.
- ഔ should not have the െ symbol in the left (eg: കൌ). 'AU length-marker' is just for creating that symbol alone in all kinds of fonts. Or think it this way - if there a AnjaliNewLipi how would you avoid െ symbol in the left.
- ഗ്ധ - If there there is no കൂട്ടക്ഷരം like this in Malayalam, why would Anjali have it?
- ദ്മ കൂട്ടക്ഷരം is not present. It is just small മ under ദ.
- ഴ്ത്ത, ഴ്വ, ട്ടക്ഷരം is not present. It is again just small ത്ത under ഴ.
- ത്പ കൂട്ടക്ഷരം is not present.
- Do you know about a പ്പ being written with a tilda over പ ? Personaly I prefer that than small പ below.
- in ല്പ conjuct, the subscript പ should get aligned with ല. (eg: അല്പം)
- The size of small ഭ in ബ്ഭു, ബ്ഭൂ etc is very small so that it is difficult to read. I know the smaller glyph of ഭു below ബ can not be too big. But can't the ബ be compressed a bit heightwise?
- ഋ symbol part of വൃ and നൃ are too elongated. For me it will look better if it were little more round.
- Implement C2-conjoint ligature draft http://www.unicode.org/review/pr-37.pdf
- Single quote overlaps the ചന്ദ്രക്കല. Example: 'അവന്'
- പ്രശ്ലേഷത്തിനു് വേണ്ടി തൽക്കാലം ദേവനാഗിരിയിലെ `അവഗ്രഹ` ഉപയോഗിക്കൂ (U+093D)
Following comments are about version 1.0.1:
- ക്ക + bksp => ക്ക് ; but ക + bksp => removes the char. Is this consistent?
- 'c' becomes 'ൿ’ instead of 'ക്’
- ചന്ദ്രക്കല ഒറ്റയ്ക്കിടാൻ വയ്യ. Tilda ഒറ്റയ്ക്കിട്ടാൽ ~ കിട്ടും :(
- mappings for 'ttha', 'ccha' etc missing. Refer bottom of this file.
- noway I can write 'വാഗ്രൂപം'
Prompted by a discussion with Deepika Editor - Jose Panthaplamthotty.
- no way to type തന്വി കണ്വന് പുണ്യം etc. The combination is 'chillable letter' + madyamam
- ta = ട, tta = റ്റ, Ta = ഠ, TTa = ട്ട is a lot confusing
- no unicode output
- output is slow; after some number of lines you won't see any output at all.
- once the output page is full, it won't automatically scroll with new input; not designed for text more than one page.
- no dictionary support for words like bus, english etc
- can't type samvr~thokaram eg: അതു്
- visargam example will not work
- ഋ sequence HRi is tedious and not intutive
- there are no equivalant sequences eg: yy = Y. so it will take more time to write in Malayalam
- no font conversion.
- no editing of already existing document
- special letter M required for anuswaram
- NTO output is wrong. The 'kettupulli' should be just before Ta.
- ", ' quote in the reverse way.
- need to type '*' in totally unnecessary places - snEham will become s*nEham
